Holy Stone F181 Review - The Best Drone Selling at Amazon
Holy Stone F181 is one the best drone selling at amazon in 2017; this RC quadcopter is very good when we compare it to the price. The F181 was released about a year ago and it achieved great success worldwide. In fact, this model presented Holy Stone company to western market.
Even though the Holy Stone F181 RC Quadcopter Drone with HD Camera RTF 4 Channel 2.4GHz 6-Gyro Headless System, Black does not have GPS, it comes with a Headless security feature that allows it to be be recalled and be prevented from being lost.
It comes with novice and advanced flight modes. As well as a great auto flip feature. It is fitted with a 2 megapixel camera and can take a few hits.
Holy Stone F181 Box
The box contents are more or less usual. Well, until you realize that they’ve provided two 3.7V batteries, each with its own USB charger.
This is a great move from the manufacturers, since having at least two batteries is an absolute minimum and everyone will buy an extra anyway. So this scores big brownie points in my book.
Of course you get the quad itself too, along with protective frames for the rotors, a 2.4 Ghz transmitter, and other essentials like the landing skids. It doesn’t include spare blades, so maybe buy some at the same time or make sure you use those protectors.

Holy Stone F181 DESIGN
The Holy Stone F181 is equipped with a flashlight at the front of the drone that makes it very easy to use at night.
Control of the drone is handled by a 2.4GHz remote control that features comfy ergonomics similar to that of a console controller. Even when packed with four AA batteries (not included), the remote is light, though it does feel a bit cheap.
The LCD screen on the remote does not offer FPV (first-person view), but it does display pertinent information such as camera mode (video or still), battery life, the drone's range, and gain trim (drift adjustment, basically). It also shows the acceleration power in percentage form.
There's also a return-to-home button that lets the F181 fly back to its original take-off point, which is a feature not normally included on a drone in this price range. It's also packing a 2MP camera that shoots stills at 1280 x 720 and records video at 720p.
Holy Stone F181 Camera Review
The Holy Stone F181 comes fully fitted with a 2MP camera that is able to record videos and take snaps of 720p resolution (1280 X 720 pictures and videos at 30 frames). These can be stored in the default 2GB SD card which comes with the drone or an alternative attached flash disk at the drone’s USB drive.
This camera can’t be considered as a professional camera, it is far away from that. But that doesn’t mean it’s useless, truth is it’s really nice camera for “fun” purposes. It’s not better nor worse than other cameras in this price range drones.
Videos and photos are stored on the default 2GB SD card which comes included in the package. 2GB should be enough for all your needs. In case it’s not, you can easily insert SD card with more storage space (4/8/16GB).
At the bottom of this review you can see sample of video and photo it records/captures.
Holy Stone F181 Battery Life & Flight Performance
If you’re beginner you’ll probably find it bit difficult to fly in “speed” mode. We highly recommend your first flights to be in 30-50% speed range. In the other hand, if you’re already experienced in flying drones, I believe you’ll be fine with high speed mode. Since this is medium sized drone, it can easily be flown outdoors.
It’s not very wind resistant so be careful about that. Overall, F181 is stable flyer that’s good for both indoor and outdoor flights. I love flight it at night thank's to the amazing LED.
In this price range, average flight time is somewhere about 6-7 minutes while control distance is under 100 meters. Holy Stone F181 has a slightly better flight time : 7-9 minutes, while control range is between 50 and 100 meters, depends on environment.
Holy Stone F181 Price
The F181 costs anything between $90 and $120 in the current online sales. Though it really isn’t a very cheap drone it also isn’t too costly when considering its features and capabilities. Thus, it is appropriate to buy it when you are working on tight budgets.
The Holy Stone F181 Quadcopter has an MSRP of $109.99, which is the typically the same price it is on Amazon:
I really loved the way this thing was ready out of the box and also came with two batteries and cables to charge both at the same time. I'm concerned, however, by the fact that one of the motors seems to have burned out during one of its early flights.
Luckily spare parts are available, and it's not super surprising on a cheap drone like this, but still a bummer. Though the F181 won’t be capturing high-quality aerial landscapes or video, it is certainly a fun drone for beginners and for more advanced pilots looking to improve their skills on a budget.
Whether you are a complete beginner or an intermediate flier it seems that the F181C is a good product to own. Simple and durable enough to learn, but providing enough real-world flight time to up your game. It looks great, it flies well, and it won’t break the bank, so I recommend it wholeheartedly.
